On 21 May this year, in order to develop an understanding of internal structures of anti-corruption control, early detection and prevention of corruption cases, elimination of their causes and conditions, prevention of conflicts of interest, formation of intolerant attitude towards corruption, UzSAMA together with the General Prosecutor's Office organised a seminar ‘Corruption and its consequences’. The seminar was attended by the central office, territorial departments (through Zoom) and system organisations of UzSAMA.
Speaking at the seminar, M. Kadyrov, Deputy Director of UzSAMA, said that the fight against corruption remains one of the most pressing problems in the modern world, that by the end of 2023 the global damage from corruption amounted to about 3 trillion U.S. dollars, but the scale of moral damage that society suffers as a result of corruption can not be measured by anything.
In turn, it was noted that in the plan of practical activities for 2024 in the direction of creating suitable conditions for each person to realise their potential strategy ‘Uzbekistan-2030’, approved by Presidential Decree №DP-37 of February 21, 2024, one of the objectives of this strategy is to improve the effectiveness of the system of eliminating factors of corruption, continuing work on the formation of intolerant attitude to corruption in society.
Also, Senior prosecutor of the General prosecutor's office of the Republic of Uzbekistan N. Sharipov gave a broad explanation of corruption and its consequences, the penalties applied to the perpetrators of corruption and the role of these individuals in society.
In 2023 Uzbekistan rose to 121st place in the Corruption Perception Index of the international organisation ‘Transparency International’, and has been achieving steady growth for 7 years, the Prosecutor's Office in this area restored the rights of 394,951 citizens, 45,514 illegal documents of state bodies were protested, 8,284 criminal cases were initiated, 2 trillion soums of damage were collected during inspections and preliminary investigation.
Sharipov continued his speech by saying that last year the Office of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Uzbekistan joined the Global Operational Network of law enforcement agencies to combat corruption (Global Network), created by the UN Office on drugs and crime. He also provided information on the articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan dealing with corruption-related offences and the penalties and sanctions provided for therein.
During the seminar, the participants received answers to their questions and expressed their gratitude to the organisers of the seminar and the staff of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
